Vector Art

I've always had a liking for vector art, I think it's great. I can look at various designs for long periods of times whether it's a landscape piece or a person.

I have always wanted to learn how to do it and although I know the basics I always seem to fail. I was wondering if I should really be doing it on Adobe Photoshop and not on another program?

So what I am asking is, what program is the best for vector art?

Is it Illustrator? Photoshop, or something different?

i've used photoshop for all of my vectors. i've heard that illustrator may be better, but i don't own that. if you're having some trouble, take a look at :iconlemontea:'s tutorial. that's how i learned when i started. just keep at it, it takes some time and practice. my first couple of vectors were pretty bad. but you just have to come up with your own style and process, that's what i've learned. look at other people's vectors, get some tips and look at tutorials (there are some great ones out there, on DA and elsewhere) that show different tips and processes for many different programs. but photoshop is what i've used and it's worked great for me. hope that helps. i really do recommend looking at tutorials for specific help, though. let me know if you have any other questions. :D

wow thanks for that, thats a real help.
I use Xara Xtreme for my vectors. Its a 2d program made for vectors. If your looking to get into them then you should definitely find something other than photoshop. :) Photoshop is alright but I find it harder to work with.

I've never used Illustrator so I really couldn't tell you much about it. But I personally would find something other than photoshop. :)

I use Photoshop CS2, the Illustrator scare me, lol...
I am using Macromedia Freehand (now Adobe Freehand) for my vector works. it is easy to use for beginners.

i would say that illustrator is amazing. i havent used freehand but heard its good...

If you can use photoshop then learning illustrator shouldnt take too much time or effort.

I tried to use photoshop to create vecor graphics like the ones in my profile and even though the tools were there it just took too long and never come out right..

try illustrator. play with the color modes, opacity, gradients etc and youl come out with something youl love.

hope this was helpfull..oh andkeep an eye out. I will be posting a tutorial on how to do vector art with illustrator like the artwork i have in my profile..should be done when i have some free time.
